On our radar: Townsville volunteer opportunities

‘Tis the season to plant trees and pick litter in the tropics, so get your gloves on and go into the new year with that good-deed glow.

Make positive change, meet great people, connect with science smarts, and sometimes score a free snag at the volunteer gigs on offer from our partner organisations.

  • Wed 29 November: Maggie on Tap Pub Talk at Nomads, Nelly Bay (Buy a burger and it donates to the Maggie Island Turtle Hospital!) — with Magnetic Island Community Development Association (MICDA).

  • Ongoing: TIDY Up Townsville encourage all local residents to collect litter and report illegal dumping in their area, and offer a $100 draw every month for litter-collectors to ‘Bag a Bag’ and post on the TIDY Facebook page. Let’s show our town the litter love this Christmas before the wet pushes our trash into rivers and reef.
  • Various dates over summer: ReefCheck invite divers and snorkelers of varying qualifications to join surveys of local reefs, including John Brewer and Lodestone. Join the ReefCheck Volunteers group for details.
